An incomplete post-Medieval cast copper-alloy spherical animal 'crotal' bell ( 0-´0 AD).The sub-rectangular suspension loop at the top is 8.08mm high, 11.07mm wide and 3.67mm thick and has circular perforation. The upper and lower hemispheres are divided equally by a horizontal circumferential joining rib. At either side of the suspension loop, about half way down the side of the upper hemisphere, is a circular sound hole. Two sound holes in the lower hemisphere are integral with a sound slit. Both hemispheres are decorated with a sun-burst design. At one side of the sound slit there is a maker's mark in the form of a horseshoe. The sound-pea is missing.The outer face and the loop is pale brown and pale green with some iron staining around the sound holes and slit. The inside is covered with iron staining.Height: 31.36mm; diameter: 25.31mm. Weight: 18.02g.
